IRS Whistleblower Actions

How to Receive an Award from the IRS Whistleblower Program!

The IRS Whistleblower Office pays money to individuals who provide specific and credible information to the IRS, and only if the information results in the eventual collection of taxes, penalties, interest or other amounts from noncompliant taxpayers. The Internal Revenue Service wants concrete information on individuals or companies that have not properly reported their tax obligations.  The IRS does not want unsubstantiated speculation, or submissions based on individual grudges. They want solid submissions supported by documentation.

There are basically two types of awards in the IRS Whistleblower Program:

  1. The taxes, penalties, interest and other amounts in dispute must exceed $2 million, and if a few other qualifications are met, the IRS will pay 15% to 30% percent of the overall amount collected.
  2. If on the other hand, the case deals with an individual, his annual gross income must be more than $200,000.
